First hunts · December
Johannesburg
goes first.
Not because it was easiest. Because the ground is here — winter grass, koppies, ridge lines and a dozen parks big enough to get lost in before breakfast. If it works on the Highveld it works anywhere.
The ground
Three parks, under review
The first courses go where people already run. Every route gets walked and safety-checked before a single checkpoint is placed — nothing goes live off a map alone.
Dam-side and open parkland
Real climb, long sightlines and enough width to route two courses that never meet. The obvious home for a first proper chain of checkpoints.
Wetland, wood and open flat
Three kinds of ground inside one fence. Cool air sits in the low parts at dawn, which is exactly the terrain the Veil was written for.
The one you already know
Central, busy, easy to find, easy to park at. The right place for a first short course — the one you run before you commit to anything longer.
Opening weekend
One morning.
One thing loose in a park.
Spoor opens with a hunt run live: something released at a set time in a real Johannesburg park, with clubs on the ground trying to contain it and the whole thing broadcast from inside the game. Everything you see happening on the map is happening in the park.
Running clubs, friend groups, office teams. We want three to five on the ground for the first one, and we would rather they knew each other.
Cool air holds a trail near the ground. Opening weekend runs at the hour the game is hardest, because that is the hour worth filming.
No actors, no set. Real runners, a real park, and a result nobody has decided in advance.
